Suicide

Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for young people between the ages of

15 and 14 – more males than females – and accounts for almost 4,500 lives lost

every year in this country. Nearly half a million teenagers make a suicide attempt

every year. More girls try; more boys succeed. You need to know that telling an

adult would be a compassionate act that could save your life rather then taking your

own life instead. If you are depressed, make yourself get help so any temptation of

committing suicide will fade away. This way, it is better for your loved ones and

yourself.

Young people like you shouldn’t commit suicide because you can hurt or

traumatize loved ones or influence others to take their lives as well. If life becomes such

a burden to one, the choice is in your hands. But that doesn’t make it right. Any

depressed teen who is thinking about committing suicide should think again, especially if

you’re at a young age where you haven’t fully grown or experienced the stresses of life.

It’s better to make yourself get help instead of refusing and letting that pain

build up inside of you.

Examples of possible triggers for suicide are real or imagined losses, like the

breakup of a romantic relationship, moving, loss (especially if by suicide) of a friend, loss

of freedom, or feeling that things will never get better. School districts should also

consider how bullying can also lead to suicide. There are different types of bullying of

which bullying statistics reveal almost half of all teens have experienced. If you’ve been

feeling any of those emotions, experiencing any type of harassment, or have been

thinking about suicide, seek help.

There are other options then death, such as talking to someone, or even finding

something to live for like God. Being religious can help people have hope in the future,

and that in your afterlife, you won’t have to suffer any longer. There are suicide hotlines,

books, blogs, counseling, many more resources that can help teenagers find a “way out”

instead of taking your own lives.

Parents are often the last to know when their children have suicidal thoughts.

It is also the nature for teens to keep secrets, especially from their parents or adults. So

don’t feel guilty if you haven’t been telling your mom or dad everything there is to

know about your life. It’s normal!

On the positive side, depression is among the most treatable of physiatrist

illnesses. Current treatment includes medication, psychotherapy or some combination of

the two.

If you know anyone who is depressed, even yourself, and is thinking about

committing suicide, contact an adult immediately. Suicide is the wrong choice and should

be put to a stop by schools, helping adults, and yourself.

  2. Aw Selina this is really good! I like how you gave people reasons not to do it and how you want to put a stop to it. And i think you have really good variations of vocabulary in the peice so it makes you want to keep reading it! Anyways, good job!
